RICHARD BLAND ANNOUNCES MEN’S AND WOMEN’S GOLF PROGRAM

PETERSBURG, Va. - Richard Bland College of William & Mary is pleased to announce the addition of men's and women's golf, beginning with the 2015-2016 season.

"The addition of men's and women's golf represents one more step forward in Richard Bland College's master plan for intercollegiate athletics," says President Debbie L. Sydow. "As Richard Bland becomes the preferred choice for more and more students and their families seeking the best value in higher education, we are responding with programming to meet their needs. Statesman student-athletes have brought tremendous pride and recognition to the College, and I'm confident that our new golf teams will bolster Statesman pride."

"We are excited to be adding two new programs to our growing athletics department and feel they will both add many more quality student-athletes to our community," says Director of Athletics Chuck Moore. "With the addition of men and women's golf our administration has shown its commitment to our athletic program and student-athletes."

Dr. Shawn Holt has been named as head coach for the RBC golf teams. Holt enters his first year after serving as the assistant coach for the men's soccer program for two years. He also serves as a Professor of Chemistry and Biology at RBC. Holt brings coaching experience of over three decades, focusing on golf, soccer, and baseball. 

The Statesmen have acquired one new student golf athlete for the fall from Chesterfield County, April Lessard a graduate of Matoaca High School.

With the addition of golf, RBC has increased its number of varsity sports to 11, including men's basketball, men's soccer, men's and women's track and field (indoor/outdoor) and softball.

Richard Bland College is partnering with the Country Club of Petersburg for all home events and practices. The Country Club of Petersburg is ranked as having one of the best golf courses in Virginia.
