Richard Bland Names Frankie Lin Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore men's golf standout Frankie Lin/Kaohsiung City, Taiwan has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period April 3-9.  He posted a round of 73 to finish in first place individually at the Cougar Classic hosted by Central Carolina Community College on April 8 at the Anderson Creek Golf Club in Spring Lake, North Carolina.

Lin earned medalist honors for the first time this year after winning three tournaments as a freshman.  It was his second Top 10 finish during 2017-18, and his third lowest round.  Anderson Creek GC played 6,712 yards, par 72.

Lin has led Richard Bland in all six tournaments this year, averaging a team-best 75.42 over 12 rounds.  He has a low round of 70, along with season-best scores of 146 (70-76) for 36 holes and 233 (77-77-79) for 54 holes.  Lin has posted three Top 10 finishes among six Top 20 efforts this year, including this recent tournament victory.

This is the third time that Lin has been selected for the weekly honor, as he previously garnered the award two times last year (November 2-8, 2016, April 19-25, 2017).

Please see below for a brief Q&A on his Athlete of the Week selection.  Athletes of the Week are chosen by members of the Richard Bland Athletics Department.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
FL: It definitely feels good to start off the season T2 after just returning to golf a week before from an ankle injury and then a win this past weekend at the Cougar Classic was a good confidence booster.  All of the hard work over our off-season is now starting to reflect.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
FL: My dad got me playing with plastic clubs when I was three years old and I have been on and off between golf and soccer, but I have made the decision that golf will be my present and future career.  My goal is to go pro after college.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
FL: We all give 100% of effort when we go out and play or whenever we are doing something that's beneficial for our golf game and future career.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
FL: I would say Matt Hemstock because he likes to make fun of my golf game all the time … even though I don't really listen to what he says.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
FL: It's not really superstitions, but I definitely don't like talking a lot when we are getting within two hours of the tournament tee-time.  I normally put headphones on and will just drop into the game day serious face and zone, people always think it's an angry face, but it isn't.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
FL: That has to be Statesman Hall, because I am always working on my body and doing whatever I can to get in the best shape for the season.  I call the gym my playground.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
FL: Favorite class would be math, because it is very challenging but when we get the questions right, I feel really good and have more confidence everyday moving forward.  Favorite Professor is Dr. Shawn Holt, and that is because he is always there when I need to talk to him about biology, plus he knows a lot about golf as well.
