STATESMEN END PLAYOFF RUN AGAINST #3 LOUISBURG

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland men's soccer team saw their season come to an end on Wednesday afternoon after suffering a 5-2 loss to the Hurricanes of Louisburg College in the Region X conference playoffs. The Statesmen dropped to 5-13-1 to conclude their season while the Hurricanes improve to 16-2-1 on the year and will move on to the semi-finals round on Saturday.

"The final score does not tell the reality of the game," said head coach Eduardo De Souza. "We had two crucial chances to tie the game but unfortunately we couldn't put it in the net."

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 1-0 lead until freshman Shawn Bennett scored a goal assisted by freshman Godfred Obed-Baisel at the 30 minute mark. Freshman Angel Padilla scored the Statesmen second goal off a penalty kick.

The game was tied twice as both teams battled and exchanged goals during the first half.

However, on the 80 minute mark, Louisburg took a 3-2 lead as the Statesmen tried on two attempts to tie the game but were unsuccessful.

Louisburg would score two more goals off of penalty kicks to secure the victory, 5-2 over the Statesmen.

Coach De Souza added "I am proud of our team effort, dedication and character. We competed with a nationally ranked opponent, we had a real chance to advance to the Region X semi-finals."

"Now we will have plenty of time to recruit and build a strong roster for the 2015 season."
