MEN'S SOCCER HOSTS SPARTANBURG METHODIST ON MONDAY

PETERSBUIRG, Va., (Aug. 31, 2015) – A string of three Conference X games commences today for the Richard Bland College men's soccer team, which hosts Spartanburg Methodist on Statesmen Field at 4:00 p.m. This afternoon's contest is an All-Campus Game, with free pizza available for students, faculty and staff.

RECORDS: Richard Bland is 3-1, 1-1, with victories over the University of South Carolina Lancaster (2-0), Union County College (4-2)  and Bluefield College (5-1) … On Saturday evening, the Statesmen dropped their first game of the season to Patrick Henry Community College, 3-0, in Conference X action … Today marks the season opener for the Pioneers … Spartanburg Methodist faced Georgia Southern University in a scrimmage on Tuesday, August, 25.

LAST SEASON: The Statesmen fell to the Pioneers 3-1 last September 20 in Spartanburg, South Carolina and 4-2 in Petersburg on October 5.

WHAT'S NEXT: Richard Bland remains home for another Conference X contest against Wake Technical Community College at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 2 … Spartanburg Methodist hosts Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday, September 5 at 5:00 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT: On Saturday evening, the Statesmen played a talented Patrick Henry team, falling 3-0 at the River Sports Complex in Axton … Richard Bland trailed 1-0 at halftime.

FROM COACH EDUARDO DE SOUZA: "Following our win over Bluefield, we knew our next several games were going to be tough and competitive. Both Patrick Henry and Spartanburg Methodist are strong teams, among the best in our conference. We have to regroup after Saturday's game, play together, defend well and have balance on both sides of the field."

HATRICK FOR BAISEL: With his three goals against Bluefield College, Baisel now leads the Statesmen in scoring this season with four. He has 25 goals in his Richard Bland career, most in school history. On Monday he was named the Statesmen Student-Athlete of the Week.
