MEN'S SOCCER TIES USC SALKENHATCHIE 1-1 IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

ALLENDALE, SC (Oct. 10, 2015) -- Despite thoroughly outshooting its opponent 20-5, the Richard Bland College men's soccer team had to settle for a 1-1 double overtime tie against the University of South Carolina Salkenhatchie on Saturday afternoon in Region X action.

Goaltending kept the Indians in the contest. Sophomore goalie Richard Trench was the difference in the contest, making 14 saves. If not for a game-tying goal from freshman forward Sukrija Dudic (Srebrenica, Bosnia Hercegovina/Hermitage) with two minutes left in regulation, USC Salkenhatchie would have secured a home field upset.

Richard Bland goes to 8-4-2, 5-3-2 in Region X competition. USC Salkenhatchie is 2-8-1, 1-5-1. The Statesmen continue their South Carolina swing with a Region X contest against USC Lancaster on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. USC Salkenhatchie travels to Wake Technical Community College for a 1:00 p.m. game on Sunday.

Though the Indians only managed five shots against a stingy Statesmen defense, one of them nearly swung the tide as USC Salkenhatchie took a 1-0 lead at the 75 minute mark. Five minutes later Dudic missed a penalty kick that could have knotted the contest, but connected on an huge goal with just 120 seconds remaining to force overtime.

Richard Bland controlled the game's tempo in both extra sessions, but couldn't solve Trench's goal keeping prowess.

"I am a little disappointed in the outcome, but I have to give the Salkenhatchie goalie (Trench) a lot of credit," said Richard Bland head coach Eduardo de Souza. "He kept his team in the game. We didn't play very well in the first half, but got better as the game progressed and dominated the overtimes. We just couldn't connect. On Sunday against USC Lancaster we need to bounce back and earn three points with a win."

Freshman keeper Ciro Labrada (Guanajuto, Mexico/Stonewall Jackson) made four saves in the contest for Richard Bland.
