SOCCER HOSTS CAPE FEAR, HONORS SOPHOMORES ON WEDNESDAY

PETERSBURG, Va., (Oct. 20, 2015) – If all goes to plan, the six sophomores that the Richard Bland College men's soccer team will honor prior to Wednesday's home contest against Cape Fear Community College, will depart Statesmen Field with the programs record-setting 11th win.

As part of week-long homecoming festivities, the Statesmen will honor Godfred BaiselAdam BelkorchiLawrence Braxton, Larry SawyerJerry Thomas and Eduardo Quintanilla.   It will be Richard Bland's final home game before potentially hosting a Region X playoff game (depending on the outcome of other Region X games to be played) on Oct. 26-28.

REGION X STANDINGS: 1. Louisburg 8-0, 13-1); 2. Patrick Henry (7-2-1, 9-4-1); 3. Spartanburg Methodist (11-3-1, 8-4-2); Richard Bland (7-3-2, 10-4-2); Cape Fear (3-6-1, 6-6-2); Wake Technical (2-9-1, 2-8-1); USC Salkenhatchie (2-6-2, 3-10-2); USC Lancaster (0-9, 1-15-1).

LAST GAME VS. CAPE FEAR: Played on Sept. 5 in Wilmington, N.C. The Sea Devils lost their first game of the season, 3-1, as the Statesmen got goals from three different players to win its second straight Region X game. Recap and stats at this link.

WHAT'S NEXT: The Statesmen will play their final regular season game of the year against No. 1 nationally ranked Louisburg College on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m. in Louisburg, N.C. … Cape Fear hosts Patrick Henry on Saturday, Oct. 24 at 2:30 p.m.

LAST RBC OUTING VS. WAKE TECHNICAL: On Friday night, in playing what head coach Eduardo de Souza described as one of the finest all-around games this season, the Statesmen shutout Wake Technical Community College 3-0 in Region X action and in the process earned its tenth win of the season, doubling last season's total. COACH EDUARDO DE SOUZA ON THE CAPE FEAR GAME: "It's sophomore day, an important time to recognize the contributions of those players to the program. Cape Fear is a a good team, and it's a major game for seeding in the Region X playoffs.

DEFENDING THE GOAL: Freshman keeper Ciro Labrada (Guanajuto, Mexico/Stonewall Jackson) has made 96 saves this season, 12th best in the nation in NJCAA Division I ... On eight occasions this season he has had six or more saves in a game.

GOAL SCORING: Nine different Statesmen players have scored this season, led by leading scorers freshman forward Sukrija Dudic (Srebrenica, Bosnia Hercegovina/Hermitage) and Godfred Baisel (Cape Coast, Ghana/Patriot) with 14 and 10 goals respectively … That duo accounts for 24 of the 40 goals RBC has scored this year … In recent national NJCAA Division I rankings, Dudic is in a seven player tie for 22nd in the nation in scoring ... Baisel is the program's all-time leading scorer with 29 career goals.

OPPORTUNE SCORING: As a team, Richard Bland has scored 40 goals this season, which puts the Statesmen in a three-way tie for 55th in the nation ... The Statesmen average 2.5 goals per game and allow 2.24.
