SOCCER TO HOST CAPE FEAR IN REGION X PLAYOFFS ON WEDNESDAY

PETERSBURG, Va., (Oct. 26, 2015) – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team, which set a school-record for victories in a season (9) and most conference wins (7), will host Cape Fear Community College in the quarterfinals of the Region X Championships on Wednesday, Oct. 28 at 3:00 p.m. at Statesmen Field. The Region X semifinals and finals will be hosted by Cape Fear and played at Legion Stadium in Wilmington, N.C. on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., with the finals slated for Saturday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

The Statesmen (9-7-2, 7-5-2), are coming off a narrow 1-0 loss to No. 1 nationally ranked Louisburg College on Sunday, and will be facing Cape Fear for a third time this season. Richard Bland beat Cape Fear 3-1 on Sept. 5 in Wilmington, N.C., and most recently secured a 1-0 victory in Petersburg on Oct 21.

Played on Sept. 5 in Wilmington, NC: The Sea Devils lost their first game of the season, 3-1, as the Statesmen got goals from three different players to win its second straight Region X game. Recap and stats at this link.

WHAT'S NEXT:
 The winner of Wednesday's game will advance to the Region X semifinals on Saturday, Oct. 31 at 5 p.m. against the winner of the No. 1 Louisburg vs. No. 8 USC Lancaster game.

 "We're excited to be hosting a quarterfinals game at home, it's a good advantage, but every game has a new story and we have to prove everyday we deserve to be in the championships."

DEFENDING THE GOAL: Freshman keeper Ciro Labrada (Guanajuto, Mexico/Stonewall Jackson) has made 105 saves this season, 11th best in the nation in NJCAA Division I ... On eight occasions this season he has had six or more saves in a game … He has a 2.05 goals against average and has allowed a single goal seven times and has two shutouts this season, recording them back-to-back against Wake Tech (Oct. 16) and Cape Fear (Oct. 21).

GOAL SCORING: Nine different Statesmen players have scored this season, led by leading scorers freshman forward Sukrija Dudic (Srebrenica, Bosnia Hercegovina/Hermitage) and Godfred Baisel (Cape Coast, Ghana/Patriot) with 14 and 11 goals respectively … That duo accounts for 25 of the 41 goals RBC has scored this year … In recent national NJCAA Division I rankings, Dudic is in a 13-player tie for 27nd in the nation in scoring ...

ALL-TIME SCORING LEADER: Baisel is the program's all-time leading scorer with 32 career goals.
