SURKAMP NAMED ASSISTANT MEN'S SOCCER COACH

PETERSBURG, Va., (Mar. 30, 2016) – Nick Surkamp, who was a First-Team All-Atlantic Coast Conference at North Carolina State University, has been named an Assistant Men's Soccer Coach at Richard Bland College.

A 2014 NC State graduate, Surkamp led the Wolfpack and finished tied for third in the ACC with eight goals, his junior season. He started and played in 16 of the Wolfpack's 17 contests. In addition to his scoring prowess, Surkamp added two assists for 18 points. He had 41 shots on the season, placing 24 on goal. That season, he earned game-winning goals against Pitt, Davidson, and Liberty and scored one goal in four-straight contests vs Liberty, Virginia Tech, Appalachian State and Maryland. He tallied two goals in the Pack's win over Davidson. He was named to College Sports Madness's All-ACC team.

"Nick Surkamp was one of my players at Longwood and he is definitely a big asset to the Richard Bland College men's soccer program," said head coach Eduardo de Souza. "He is bringing an ACC experience to our program, playing in one of the best leagues in NCAA Division I. His knowledge and connections will not only influence our current players but will attract new talent to our program."

Surkamp began is collegiate career playing at Longwood University in 2010. In the 2011 season he was named the Atlantic Soccer Conference (ASC) Player of the Year, leading Longwood to a 11-6-3 mark. Surkamp led the Lancers with 11 goals and 24 points, and also added two assists in 19 starts. His first season at Longwood, Surkamp played in 19 games, starting in 17. He tallied one goal with two assists for four points, attempting 24 shots with 15 shots on goal.

Surkamp played four years of soccer at Osbourn Park High School in Manassas, Va., where he led the team in assists and second in scoring as a junior and senior. He was named First-Team All-District, First-Team All-Region and All-State Honorable Mention as a senior. Additionally, Surkamp was tabbed a First-Team All-Area selection by Washington Post and Potomac News and Second-Team All-Metro as a senior.
