SOCCER STRONG IN SPRING GAMES VERSUS LONGWOOD, MARY WASHINGTON

PETERSBURG, Va., (April 5, 2016) – The Richard Bland College men's soccer team began its spring season on Saturday by playing two games in a tournament setting against Division I Longwood University and Division III University of Mary Washington in competition held at Mary Washington.

The Statesmen comported themselves favorably, falling to the Longwood Lancers, 1-0, and tieing Mary Washington 1-1.

"We played a strong game against an NCAA Division I team, controlling parts of the game and having three clear chances on goal," said Richard Bland College men's soccer coach Eduardo de Souza.  Playing against a Division I school will always be very beneficial to our program. Our players had the opportunity to experience what it's like to compete at that level. Overall, we did a good job showing our personality and confidence. We competed very well."

In the second game, RBC went toe-to-toe against Division III Mary Washington, getting a goal from sophomore Eduardo Quintanilla.

"The second game we faced a very athletic Mary Washington team and we did a good job of keeping the ball and controlling the game," de Souza explains. "We were able to give playing time to our full roster, which helps with experience and confidence going into next season. The game also showed we have a solid group of players at Richard Bland."
