Richard Bland Drops 3-2 Road Decision At No. 18 Patrick Henry

AXTON, Va. – Freshman Eduardo Pessoa/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil scored two first-half goals, but Richard Bland College dropped a 3-2 Region X Conference road decision at nationally-ranked No. 18 Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday evening in Axton. Freshman Miguel Ramos/Casal de Cambra, Portugal added two assists, and classmate Hussein Osman/Charlottesville had one assist for the visiting Statesmen (4-4, 2-4 Region X) against the host Patriots (7-0, 3-0 Region X). Richard Bland will remain on the road to play at Region X opponent Wake Technical Community College on Thursday, September 22 at 1:30 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Richard Bland led 2-0 at the intermission at Patrick Henry, ranked No. 18 in this week's NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Top 20 Poll, after the first-half goals from Pessoa. Ramos provided assists on both of the scores for the Statesmen, while Osman contributed to one of the goals, as well.

Unfortunately, the unbeaten and nationally-ranked hosts scored three unanswered goals during the final 45 minutes to secure the home win. The visitors were limited during the second half after receiving red cards against both field players and the bench, forcing the squad to play down several players over the latter part of the contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Tomas Fonseca/Torres Vedras, Portugal started and played the first 71 minutes in front of the net for Richard Bland, recording five saves while yielding the three goals. Sophomore Sukrija Dudic/Richmond played the final 19 minutes in goal, posting one save.
