Richard Bland Hosting Harcum College Wednesday Afternoon

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. – Richard Bland College will play its final non-conference home match of the season against Harcum (Pa.) College on Wednesday afternoon, September 28, at 4 p.m. on Statesman Field.  The Statesmen (5-4-1) will be looking for their third non-Region X Conference win this fall against the visiting Bears (8-2).  Admission is free to all Richard Bland men's soccer home matches.

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 5-4-1 overall, including 3-4-1 in Region X, following a 1-1 double-overtime tie against USC Salkehatchie at home on Sept. 25.  The Statesmen are coached by head coach Eduardo de Souza, who is in his third season, while assisted by first-year assistant coach Nick Surkamp.  Richard Bland has been led in scoring through 10 matches by freshman Eduardo Pessoa/Rio de Janeiro, Brazil with seven goals for 14 points, followed by sophomore Sebastian Hendi/Alexandria (4g) and freshman Miguel Ramos/Casal de Cambra, Portugal (2g, 4a), each with eight points, freshman Dusan Stankovic/Belgrade, Serbia with two goals and one assist for five points, along with sophomore Sukrija Dudic/Richmond (2g) and freshman Danny Torres/Bucaramanga, Colombia (1g, 2a), each with four points.  Freshman goalkeeper Tomas Fonseca/Torres Vedras, Portugal has started four of five matches in front of the net, playing 343:02 with one shutout, a 1.84 goals against average and nine saves for a save percentage of .563 percent.

Scouting the Bears
Harcum is 8-2 overall after its 5-1 home win past Monroe Community College on Sept. 24.  The Bears are coached by first-year head coach Alex Graver.  Harcum has been led in scoring by sophomore Uros Momic with 16 goals and three assists for 35 points, followed by freshman Chris Campbell with nine goals and eight assists for 26 points, classmate Karam Idris with seven goals and three assists for 17 points, freshman Daniel McAllister with four goals and three assists for 11 points and classmate Jack Burrows with five goals for 10 points.  Freshman keeper Andrej Vidal has played 540:00 in front of the net with four shutouts, a 0.83 goals against average and 26 saves for a save percentage of .839 percent.

Series History
This is only the third-ever meeting between the two schools in the sport of men's soccer.  Harcum leads the all-time series, 2-0, including a 4-3 win on Statesman Field during 2014 and a 6-0 win in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania (near Philadelphia) last Sept. 27, 2015.

Last Time Out
Pessoa scored his team-best seventh goal of the season as Richard Bland battled to the 1-1 double-OT tie against USC Salkehatchie on Sunday afternoon at Statesman Field. Sophomore Jeffrey Pineda/Los Angeles, Calif. and freshman Peter Diawuo/Alexandria each contributed an assist for the host Statesmen.  Fonseca started and played the entire 110 minutes in front of the net, making one save and yielding the lone opponent goal.  Richard Bland finished with an 18-2 advantage in shots against USC Salkehatchie, including 11-2 in attempts on goal. The Statesmen had an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

Richard Bland will remain at home for its next two matches of this current four-match homestand at Statesman Field.  Patrick Henry Community College, ranked No. 13 in this week's NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Top 20 Poll, visits this Saturday, October 1, at 1 p.m., followed by Cape Fear (N.C.) Community College next Tuesday, Oct. 4, at 4 p.m.  Both PHCC and CFCC are Region X opponents.
