Richard Bland Names Sukrija Dudic Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore men's soccer forward Sukrija Dudic/Richmond has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period October 25-31.  He scored the game-winning goal during a 2-1 win against No. 9 Louisburg (N.C.) College on Oct. 29 in a Region X Tournament Semifinal, after contributing the game-winning assist during a 1-0 overtime win at USC Salkehatchie on Oct. 26 in a Region X Tournament Quarterfinal.  Dudic has started 13 of 19 matches for the Statesmen (12-6-2), ranking fourth in scoring with five goals and three assists for 13 points, including three game-winning goals.  He will look to add to his scoring total this weekend when Region X Tournament Champion Richard Bland plays Eastern Florida State College in an NJCAA Southeast District Championship Semifinal on Friday, November 4, at 1 p.m. in Daytona Beach, Florida.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
SD: It feels great and leaves me speechless … it really is an honor and privilege.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
SD: I've been playing soccer since I could walk.  I guess when your dad and practically whole family plays soccer, it's simply brought upon you … it wasn't really a choice, more like something you're born into.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
SD: We're all a big family.  No matter our backgrounds, we love and support each other through our lowest and greatest moments.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
SD: Honestly, it would be a tough decision to narrow it down, but Russo (Agustin Vassallo) would definitely be one of them … just the way he acts and little comments that he makes, plus his facial expressions are what get to me.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
SD: Aside from praying with the team, I like to pray privately as we're lined-up and once more before kickoff.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
SD: Off the soccer field, it would have to be the ping pong room on the fourth floor of Patriot Hall, where we always get together to relax and listen to music.  I also like the Library, where I sleep on the bean bag chairs quite a lot.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
SD: Intro to Sport Management with Danish Saadat (Adjunct Instructor of Health Services, who also serves as the College's Coordinator of Athletics Development & Special Events and a Sports Performance Coach).  I'm actually very interested with what goes on in that class and I feel like he's one of the easier professors to talk to.
