SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will welcome USC Salkehatchie in Region X men's soccer action on Sunday afternoon, September 3, at 2 p.m. at the Statesman Soccer Field.  It's the second of four-straight home contests for the host Statesmen (2-0, 2-0 Region X) versus the visiting Indians (1-1, 1-0 Region X), who were scheduled to play a region match at Louisburg (N.C.) College on Saturday (Sept. 2).

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 2-0 overall, including 2-0 in Region X, following a 3-1 home victory past Wake Tech (N.C.) on August 31.  The Statesmen are coached by fourth-year head coach Eduardo de Souza, and assisted by second-year assistant coach Nick Surkamp.  Against the Eagles, sophomores Dusan Stankovic/Belgrade, Serbia and Hussein Osman/Charlottesville, along with freshman Davi Girardi/São Paulo, Brazil, each scored goals, and freshmen Nikola Aleksic/Belgrade, Serbia and Vandyke Gyau/Alexandria each contributed an assist, while sophomore keeper Tomás Fonseca/Torres Vedras, Portugal played the entire 90 minutes, making three saves. 

Series History
USC Salkehatchie leads the all-time series, 4-2-3, and has outscored Richard Bland by a margin of 22-9 in the nine previous meetings.  The Statesmen, however, did win the most recent match between the two schools, defeating the Indians 1-0 in overtime during the quarterfinals of last fall's Region X Tournament.  Osman scored the game-winning goal in the 94th minute to help Richard Bland move on to the semifinals en route to the region tournament title.  The Statesmen and USC Salkehatchie tied 1-1 in double-overtime last September 25 at home, before the Indians took a 1-0 decision last October 16 in South Carolina.

2016 NJCAA Region X Tournament Champions
Richard Bland completed 2016 with the finest season in the four-year history of the program, posting a final overall record of 12-7-2, including its first-ever Region X Tournament Championship and advancing to the NJCAA Division I Southeast District Tournament semifinals.
