No. 19 Richard Bland Wins On The Road At Patrick Henry 4-0

MARTINSVILLE, Va. -- Sophomore Dusan Stankovic/Belgrade, Serbia had one goal and one assist to lead No. 19 Richard Bland College to a 4-0 Region X men's soccer shutout road victory at Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday afternoon in Martinsville.  Freshmen Uziel Hernandez/The Villages, Florida, Ervin Ikanovic/Tuzla, Bosnia & Herzegovina and Davi Girardi/São Paulo, Brazil each added one goal, while sophomore Hussein Osman/Charlottesville and freshman Vandyke Gyau/Alexandria each added an assist for the visiting and unbeaten Statesmen (7-0, 6-0 Region X) against the host Patriots (1-4, 0-4 Region X).  Richard Bland will return home to play the College of Southern Maryland on Tuesday, Sept. 19, at 4 p.m.

Richard Bland led 2-0 at the intermission following first-half goals from Hernandez in the 30th minute and Stankovic in the 37th minute.  Hernandez was assisted by Osman, while Stankovic tallied from a free kick.  The nationally-ranked Statesmen made it a 3-0 contest in the 75th minute when Ikanovic scored with an assist from Stankovic.  Girardi scored the final goal in the 81st minute, aided by Gyau, for the final four-goal margin.

Sophomore keeper Tomás Fonseca/Torres Vedras, Portugal started in front of the net for Richard Bland and played the entire 90 minutes with the two saves to earn his fourth shutout this season.  It was the team's fourth consecutive shutout and fifth overall blanking in seven contests.

Richard Bland and Patrick Henry were meeting for the ninth time in the sport of men's soccer, and the Patriots continue to lead the all-time series, 6-2-1; however, the Statesmen have won two-straight matches in the series.
