No. 19 Richard Bland Hosting Southern Maryland On Tuesday

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- No. 19 Richard Bland College welcomes the College of Southern Maryland in non-region men's soccer action on Tuesday afternoon, September 19, at 4 p.m. at the Statesman Soccer Field.  The nationally-ranked and unbeaten Statesmen have a perfect record of 7-0, while the visiting Hawks have a record of 1-3.

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 7-0 overall, including 6-0 in Region X, following a 4-0 road shutout at Region X and in-state rival Patrick Henry Community College on Sept. 16.  The Statesmen, ranked among the Top 20 in last week's NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Poll for the first time in the five-year history of the program, are coached by fourth-year head coach Eduardo de Souza, and assisted by second-year assistant coach Nick Surkamp.

Richard Bland has been led in scoring by freshman Davi Girardi/São Paulo, Brazil, last week's NJCAA Player of the Week, with nine goals, including four game-winners, and two assists totaling 20 points.  Sophomore Dusan Stankovic/Belgrade, Serbia adds five goals and one assist for 11 points, while classmate Hussein Osman/Charlottesville adds three goals and three assists for nine points.  Sophomore keeper Tomás Fonseca/Torres Vedras, Portugal has started all seven matches and played 585 minutes in front of the net with four shutouts, a miniscule 0.31 goals against average and 10 saves for a save percentage of .833 percent.

2016 NJCAA Region X Tournament Champions
Richard Bland completed 2016 with the finest season in the four-year history of the program, posting a final overall record of 12-7-2, including its first-ever Region X Tournament Championship and advancing to the NJCAA Division I Southeast District Tournament semifinals.

Richard Bland will travel to South Carolina for a pair of Region X matches this weekend, including at USC Salkehatchie on Friday, Sept. 22, at 2 p.m. in Allendale and at USC Lancaster on Saturday, Sept. 23, at 4 p.m. in Lancaster.  The Statesmen return home to host Region X rival Louisburg (N.C.) College on Tuesday, Sept. 26, at 4 p.m. at the Statesman Soccer Field.
