Westfield Scores his First Goal in 8-0 Win over Regent

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- On Tuesday afternoon during the 12th game of the regular season, Gonzalo Bazan led the Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's soccer team to an 8-0 victory over Regent University. Bazan scored three of the eight goals for the Statesmen in the stellar performance.

The Statesmen added another win to their record, bringing them to 11-1 this season. RBC next hosts Wake Technical Community College at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, October 11 on Willcox Field. 

Not letting the rain hold them back, Antonio Ferreira started the Statesmen off with seven minutes into the first half with a goal, assisted by Juan Menjivar. Bazan fanned the flame by scoring two goals in a row which were assisted by Matthew Ridley and Ferreira, making the score 3-0. Gorka Delgado contributed another two goals in Tuesday's contest, bringing his personal total to 22 goals this season. 

After halftime, RBC refused to back down. Six minutes into the second half, Bazan and Ferreira added another two goals to the scoreboard with help from Ervin Zuniga and Delgado. Halfway through the second half, Desally Westfield scored his first goal of the season assisted by Juan-Pablo Camacho. Unassisted, Waseem Abdalla secured the final goal for the Statesmen, arriving at the final score 8-0.

"Even with the gloomy and cold weather," assistant coach Meghan Mauzy said, "the boys fired up the field with their discipline and hard work."
