Salkehatchie Shutout Sends Men's Soccer to Semi-Finals

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, VA -- In the Region X playoff game on Tuesday, the Richard Bland College of William & Mary men's soccer team won 4-0 against USC Salkehatchie at Willcox Field on Tuesday.

The Statesmen move to 15-2 on the season and will travel to USC Lancaster to play Patrick Henry Community College on Saturday, November 2 in the semi-finals.

The Statesmen started the post-season with the same motivation and fiery intensity they carried throughout the entire regular season. With RBC already having faced USC Salkehatchie, the Statesmen knew to take an early lead in the first half. Antonio Ferreira scored the first goal for RBC which was assisted by Nehemie Lamtoukou. With 12 minutes left in the half, Matthew Ridley took full advantage of a penalty kick by crushing the ball and blowing it past the goalkeeper.

With the Statesmen up 2-0 going into the second half, RBC decided to tack on two more goals. David Comayagau, with an assist from Lamtoukou, was able to score a third goal for the Statesmen within the first ten minutes of the second half. Not one minute later, Ferreira assisted Gonzalo Bazan in a swiftly executed play to tap the ball into the goal for the final score 4-0.

The assistant coach Meghan Mauzy had a few words to express her love for the boys. "We are incredibly proud of this team and we are ready to take home a championship."
