Region X Finals Awaits Men's Soccer

LANCASTER, SC -- Richard Bland College's men's soccer team advanced through the semifinals by beating Patrick Henry Community College 4-1, Saturday and now will play for the Region X Championship.

The team adds yet another win to their impressive 2019 record and is 16-2 on the season.  One of those two losses came from the team they just beat on Saturday while the other loss came from the team that awaits them in the finals.  Undefeated and nationally ranked Louisburg College won the other semifinal match earlier in the day and will play the Statesmen on Sunday, November 3, at 12 pm.

The team opened up the match today facing a deficit after Patrick Henry netted an early goal.  The Statesmen did not stay behind for long and would score a goal of their own after Brian Guerrero scored his fifth goal of the season on a Matthew Ridley assist.  After that goal to tie it up, Patrick Henry had no answer for the Statesmen offense.  Gonzalo Bazan closed out the first half with a goal from Waseem Abdalla putting RBC up 2-1.  In the second half with 25 minutes to go, Ridley opened up the lead even more with a goal of his own from Nehemie Lamtoukou to make the score 3-1.  Ridley would not be done on the day as he assisted on another goal to Bazan with 12 minutes to go in the game for Bazan's second of the day.  When the final whistle sounded the Statesmen walked off the field victorious with a score of 4-1.

The Statesmen marked these two games against Patrick Henry and Louisburg on their calendars as games they wanted to come out and make a statement.  With one of the games in the books, only the finals and Louisburg await the team.  Using the momentum from this game, the Statesmen can be expected to put on their very best performance against a strong opponent and will look to bring home the Region X Championship to Richard Bland!
