TRACK AND FIELD HEADS TO FRED HARDY INVITATIONAL BEGINNING ON FRIDAY

PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland College track and field team will compete in the 10th annual Fred Hardy Invitational this weekend at Robins Stadium in Richmond, Va. hosted by the University of Richmond. Admission is free to the general public and concessions will be open on the west side of Robins Stadium. 

 

Richard Bland looks to improve on last weekend's stellar performances after Dominique Revis (Hampton, VA) jumped a lifetime-best of 15.22 meters to win the men's triple jump at the VCU Ram Invite. Revis currently ranked fourth in the country. Marcus Finnie (Fredericksburg, VA) jumped a lifetime-best of 7.20 meters to win the men's long jump to qualify nationals. Finnie currently ranks sixth in the nation while Torry Miller (Chesterfield, VA) threw a personal-best of 13.51 meters to finish third in the men's shot put. Miller ranks 47th in the country.

 

This weekend's running and jumping events will be held at the Fred Hardy at Robins Stadium, with the throwing events taking place at the Upper Practice Fields on the Westhampton side of campus along Crenshaw Way behind Parking Lot W39.

The meet will open on Friday, March 27 with the men's hammer throw, which is set to begin at 12:00 p.m. at the Upper Practice Fields.  Events at the Fred Hardy Track begin at 3:00 p.m. with the men's and women's pole vault, followed by the running events that are slated to start at 5:00 p.m. with the 3000m steeplechase.  Saturday's events kick off with the men's discus at 9:00 a.m.  Running events will commence at 11:00 a.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles.

 

In its 10th year, the Fred Hardy Invitational will feature athletes representing 25 colleges and universities. Overall, more than 1,700 athletes are slated to compete this weekend with 15 Statesmen entered in the meet.
