IN FOCUS: TRACK AND FIELD EDITION – ANDRAE McGOWAN

"In Focus" is a weekly feature on RBCathletics.com that will highlight student-athletes from 11 intercollegiate athletic programs that make up "RBC Statesmen"

Each edition, RBC Athletic Communications Assistant chats with selected student-athletes from various programs to get inside their world and let us know a little more about them.

This edition features freshman Andrae McGowan of the men's track and field team. The Hampton, Va., native won the 500, 800 and 1000 meter runs while attending Hampton Christian High School. McGowan holds the 3 mile record and was the 2012 Metro Conference Champion in cross country at Hampton Christian.

McGowan competes in the men's 800 meter and 1000 meter run for Richard Bland.

With the season in full swing, McGowan and his teammates are gearing up for Liberty Invite. He was nice enough to take the time out with sports information assistant to give us a little more of an in-depth look at himself.

How did you decide RBC was the right place for you?

After obtaining my high school diploma, I decided to come to RBC because I was not ready for a 4-year institution and I knew that by choosing to go to RBC, I would have the opportunity to compete in track and field while taking general courses at the same time.

What is your personal goal this season and what are the team's goals for the season?

My goal is to qualify for nationals in the 800 meter run, the team goal is to have everyone punch their ticket to Kansas and perform at the NJCAA Nationals.

What was your favorite athletic moment at RBC thus far?

My favorite athletic moment at RBC would have to be when the entire track and field team is in the weight room working out, we always go out to eat afterwards.

What's a fun fact that people may not know about you?

A fun fact that people may not know about me is that I really enjoy jet-skiing at beaches back in my hometown of Hampton, Va.
