STATESMEN SHINE AT NEW CAPTAINS CLASSIC

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Richard Bland College track and field team concluded its last meet on the season with outstanding performances in the New Captains Classic hosted by Christopher Newport University at POMOCO Stadium.

 

The Statesmen had three first place finishes and 16 top-ten finishes on Saturday afternoon to headline the team's efforts.

 

All-American Joshua Washington (Woodbridge, VA) finished the day with two victories in the men's 100-meter dash with a time of 10.67 and the 200-meter dash at a clocking time of 20.86. Marcus Finnie (Fredericksburg, VA) earned a sixth place nod in the 100-meter dash at 11.09 and fourth place finish in the men's long jump at 6.65m.

 

In the 400-meter hurdles, Oliver Smith (Glen Allen, VA) registered a sixth place finish crossing the line at 1:01.65 while Torry Miller (Monacan) posted a solid mark in the shot put with a throw of 13.41m to round out the top-five.

 

New Kent High School product Nick Williams posted a jump of 12.75m in the triple jump to register a fourth place finish while Terrelle Robinson (Ashland, VA) charted a time of 53.14 in the 400-meter dash for ninth place and in the 800-meter race, Andrae McGowan (Hampton, VA) charted a time of 2:00.53 for sixth place.

 

On the women's side, Lee Davis High School product Dallas Tennessee captured the title in the long jump after a jump of 5.39m for a first place finish. Tennessee placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.19.

 

Thomas Dale High School product Tia Holmes finished second in both the 100-meter dash with a time of 12.56 and the long jump, posting a jump of 5.22m. Auburn Bex (Newport News, VA) earned an eight place finish in the 800-meter run with a 2:46.29 clocking while Cassandra Nnaji (Fall Church, VA) recorded a fourth place finish in the shot put at 11.75m and sixth in the discus throw at 30.52m.
