IN FOCUS: TRACK & FIELD EDITION – FRESHMAN MARCUS FINNIE

"In Focus" is a weekly feature on RBCathletics.com that will highlight student-athletes from 11 intercollegiate athletic programs that make up "RBC Statesmen"

Each edition, RBC Director of Sports Information chats with selected student-athletes from various programs to get inside their world and let us know a little more about them.

This edition features freshman Marcus Finnie of the men's track and field team. The Fredericksburg, Va., native claimed two wins this season in the men's long jump. He opened the outdoor season with a victory after a jump of 7.20 meters to claim the title at the VCU Ram Invite.

Finnie earned his second consecutive victory at the Fred Hardy Invite when he jumped 6.98 meters despite the freezing cold hosted by the University of Richmond.

With Nationals a few days away, Finnie and his teammates are gearing up for the 2015 Outdoor Track and Field Nationals held at Hutchinson, Kan. He was nice enough to take the time out with sports information director to give us a little more of an in-depth look at himself.

How did you decide RBC was the right place for you?

The location was great for me away from home but not too far.

What is your personal goal this season and what are the team's goals for the season?

My personal goal was to long jump at 24 feet and the team's goal was to qualify as many athletes as possible for Nationals.

What was your favorite athletic moment at RBC thus far?

My favorite athletic moment was when I beat my personal record in the long jump by 1 foot

What's a fun fact that people may not know about you?

I love to take naps
