SUCCESSFUL CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT HOLIDAY OPEN FOR STATESMEN
PETERSBURG, VA., (Dec. 7, 2015) – A successful Christopher Newport Holiday Open was turned in by members of the Richard Bland College track team.
 

For openers, sophomore track long jumper Marcus Finnie qualified for the NJCAA Men's & Women's Indoor Championships in March at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, N.C.

 

At the the Christopher Newport Holiday Open on Saturday, Finnie won the men's long jump with a personal indoor best of 6.99 meters (22'11 1/4"), which met the qualifying standards for him to compete against the nation's elite in March at the NJCAA Championships. It marked the second NJCAA qualification for Finnie, who had a successful outdoor season as a freshman and competed in the 2015 NJCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Hutchinson, Kansas.

 

Three other Statesmen performed admirably. Torry Miller continued his assault in the men's Shot put with a personal best of 14.43 Meters, which earned him a 6th place finish. Miller broke his personal best by four inches.

 

Andrae McGowan ran a lifetime best of 1:26.81 in the men's 600m dash. His time was six tenth of a second of the national qualifying standard.

 

Nick Williams ran a lifetime best of 7.36 in the 60m dash and added a 5.57m in the long jump.  His triple jump of 12.31 was a personal indoor best.
