SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH CHESAPEAKE COLLEGE IN EXHIBITION PLAY

Dinwiddie, VA, September 20, 2013- After a stagnant start the Lady Skipjacks of Chesapeake College pick up a three run home run to defeat the Statesmen 3-0. The Statesmen struggled to manufacture enough offense to allow them to cross home plate.

Pitcher Tara Heatwole retired six batters and allowed only six hits throughout the first game, however, one was a three run home run in the top of the third inning, which proved to be just enough for the visitors to take the first game from the Statesmen. Offensively, Amberly Alston was solid at the plate going two for three and stole one base in the process.

In the second game, Mckenzie Love took the win in the circle for the Statesmen. Catcher, Taylor Slate, started the game off with a bunt for a base hit and was joined by Ayannah Bowman-Williams to make the score 2-0 crossing home plate off two errors by the visitors. Slate would end the game going two for three with a sacrifice and a stolen base. Centerfielder, Sierra Ford, also came through big for the Statesmen, ringing in four RBI's, including two off of a deep hit to center resulting in a double.

Richard Bland evens their record at 2-2 for the fall exhibition season and will play next at Patrick Henry Community College to take on regional foes, the host Patriots and the Hurricanes from Louisburg College in the second game. The first pitch is at 12:00 noon against Patrick Henry followed by the 2:00 p.m. game against Louisburg.
