STATESMEN GOES BACK AND FORTH, SPLITS WITH PITT CC

PETERSBURG, VA, February 23, 2014-The Statesmen exploded offensively in the first game against Pitt CC. In the 7-inning contest, Richard Bland batters managed to see 138 pitches, and had 16 quality at-bats (any one of three pitches after two strikes, or a 6+ pitch ABs).  With bases loaded in the bottom of the 4th inning Amberly Alston came up with a grand-slam, line-drive slap to the center field fence.  Krysten Davis continued to have a hot bat going 3-4 at the plate including a double and a walk.  Sierra Ford also went 2-4 at the plate while anchoring down center field defensively. Overall the team responded well and made adjustments quickly to come away with the hard-fought win. Tara Heatwole took the win for the Statesman  after pitching 5.0 innings and giving up seven earned runs on the game. McKenzie Love came in relief and picked up the save.
