STATESMEN WIN SECOND GAME OVER A TOUGH SURRY SQUAD TO EVEN OUT

DOBSON, NC, March 2, 2014-Tara Heatwole came out strong on the mound, commanding the ball in a game where there were no walks allowed on either team. Heatwole struck out 13 Surry batters and created four, 1-2-3 out innings. It was an impressive showing all around, but could not be supported by the Statesmen bats. Offensively, the Statesmen were held to only three hits. Richard Bland struggled against the Surry pitcher and only created eight quality at bats for the game. The Statesmen with hits included Sierra Ford, Rebecca Condrey and Mary Beth Latham.

The second game, Richard Bland battled back against the same pitcher, and provided the run support needed to give Heatwole the win on the day. Third basemen, Mary Beth Latham, drove in three RBI's while going 2-4 at the plate. Sophomores Rebecca Condrey and Krysten Davis also had RBI's each going 1-3. Other offensive highlights included McKenzie Love going 2-3, getting two singles and a walk, who would come around and score twice in the game.

The Statesmen (4-4), have shown a great deal of potential despite being down with a few injuries. Richard Bland will return to Statesman Field this Saturday against Patrick Henry CC at 2pm and 4 pm, and again on Sunday against Harford Community College at 1pm and 3pm.
