STATESMEN SWEEP BOTH PATRICK HENRY AND DI HARFORD THIS WEEKEND

PETERSBURG, VA, March 9, 2014-McKenzie Love was strong at the plate and on the rubber in carrying RBC Statesmen to a 5-4 victory over Patrick Henry CC on Saturday at RBC.

Love was solid at the plate for RBC Statesmen. McKenzie went 2-4, drove in one and scored one run. She singled in the second inning and homered in the fourth inning while driving in  2 runs.

In the circle, McKenzie pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, nine hits and two walks while striking out four.

RBC Statesmen staved off Patrick Henry CC as Patrick Henry CC was unable to match RBC Statesmen down the stretch.

RBC Statesmen never surrendered the lead after the second inning, scoring three runs on an error, an RBI single by Tara Heatwole, and an RBI triple byKrysten Davis.

In the second game, RBC Statesmen beat Patrick Henry CC 10-1 in six innings on Saturday at RBC after a six-run explosion in the sixth inning.

Amberly Alston had a busy day at the plate, collecting two extra-base hits. She tripled in the first and sixth innings.

Patrick Henry CC couldn't get anything going as long as Tara Heatwole was on the rubber. Patrick Henry CC managed just two hits off of Heatwole, who allowed no earned runs, walked one and struck out five during her six innings of work.

Ayannah Bowman-Williams, Alston, Sierra Ford and Mary Latham helped lead RBC Statesmen. They combined for eight hits and five RBIs.

RBC Statesmen never surrendered the lead after the first inning, scoring three runs on a solo home run by Marybeth Latham, another home run by Sierra Ford and an RBI triple by Alston.

RBC Sweeps DI Harford

An impressive two-way performance from McKenzie Love led RBC Statesmen to a 13-1 win Sunday over Harford CC, as McKenzie came up huge at the dish and in the circle.

McKenzie racked up two RBIs on two hits for RBC Statesmen. She singled in the second and third innings.

McKenzie got the win for RBC Statesmen thanks to six strikeouts. Love allowed one earned run, three hits and two walks over five innings.

The offense exploded for the RBC Statesmen in the second. Harford CC had no answer as RBC Statesmen scored eight runs.

Sam Day ended up on the wrong side of the pitching decision, charged with the loss. She allowed 13 runs in four innings, walked five and struck out none.

The Statesmen scored five runs of its own in the third. Offensively, the Statesmen scored on a two-run double by Sierra Ford, an RBI single by Mary Latham, an RBI single by McKenzie, and a groundout by Rebecca Condrey.

 The second game proved to be the same as the Statesmen refused to relinquish the lead after grabbing it early against Harford CC, recording an 11-1 victory.

The game was decided quickly as RBC Statesmen exerted its will early with eight runs in the first three innings.

An RBI single by Rebecca Condrey, a sacrifice fly by Toria Arnett, a passed ball, and a two-run double by Ayannah Bowman-Williams during the second inning fueled RBC Statesmen's offense early.

Krysten Davis was hot from the plate for RBC Statesmen. Krysten went 2-2, drove in one and scored two runs. She doubled in the second inning and singled in the fourth inning.

Tara Heatwole had an impressive outing against Harford CC's lineup. Harford CC managed just three hits off of Heatwole, who allowed one earned run, walked none and struck out four during her five innings of work.

 After posting three runs in the third, the Statesmen again scored three in the fourth. In the third, they scored on a sacrifice fly by Daivs, scoring Mary Latham.

The Statesmen then scored on a two-run single by Taylor Slate and a two-run single by Toria Arnett.

Head Coach Martha Covington spoke highly of the team's effort all weekend. "This weekend the team made a statement, and have found their bats along with a solid performance behind our pitchers and catcher Arnett who has held down the position as we battle through a couple of injuries."

The Statesmen return to play this Saturday, March 15th at Statesmen Field against Southeastern CC at 12pm and 2pm, then will travel to play Rappahannock CC on Sunday at 1pm and 3pm.
