GAME 1

The Statesmen battled two tight games against Herkimer County Community College, the 2013 NJCAA Division III National Champions from New York.

In game 1, Amberly Alston went 1-1 at the plate with a triple as Richard Bland went on to win the first game 3-0.  McKenzie Love took the win and the shutout on the mound after pitching all 7-innings.  She struck out 1 batter and allowed 6 hits.  After a long first inning, Love settled down and went on to only throw 82 pitches in the game and held Herkimer to a batting average of .207.

The Statesmen got on the board in the 3rd inning when Rebecca Condrey started the inning with hard hit single up the middle, followed by a line-drive single by Taylor Slate.  Ayannah Bowman-Williams was then hit by a pitch, which loaded the bases up for Mary Latham who stroked a line-drive to left field scoring Condrey and Slate.  The Statesmen pushed one more run across the plate in the 4th inning when Love hit an RBI single to center field scoring Alston.

Despite an error that led to Herkimer getting on the board first, the Statesmen were able to battle back for the 3-1 win to end the day with a sweep.

Tara Heatwole took the win, and proved her toughness after working out of four tricky innings with base runners in scoring position. In 7-innings pitched, she allowed no earned runs on just 6 hits and struck out 6 batters as well.

The Statesmen capitalized on mistakes from Herkimer in the 2nd inning to get a run across started by Alston who was hit by a pitch.  After a sacrifice by Tara Heatwole and an error on Rebecca Condrey's infield ground ball, Alston crossed the plate to tie the game 1-1.

The 3rd inning was kicked off by a single by Taylor Slate to right field. Sierra Ford used her speed to produce an infield single which set runners on first and second with 1-out for Mary Beth Latham. Latham tripled to left field scoring both Slate and Ford.

In the top of the 7th inning, Herkimer battled to get bases loaded with 1-out.  Heatwole answered back with a strike-out and a long fly-ball out to Sierra Ford in center field to end the game.

The Statesmen will play a double-header against Frederick CC on Wednesday, March 26th starting at 3pm.
