STATESMEN SURVIVES SURRY 6-2, THANKS TO KRYSTEN DAVIS'S LATE GAME HEROICS

PETERSBURG, VA, April 4, 2014- Krysten Davis drove in the go-ahead run to give the Statesmen the lead in the sixth inning, as Richard Bland hung on to beat Surry 6-2 on Friday in game 1.

With the score tied at one in the sixth inning, Davis came to the plate and tripled, bringing home Sierra Ford, Mary Latham and Ayannah Bowman-Williams. Davis racked up three RBIs on two hits.

McKenzie Love was a workhorse on the rubber while bagging the win for RBC. McKenzie allowed one earned run, four hits and five walks while striking out five over 6 2/3 innings of work.

Tara Heatwole put away the final out to record the save for the final out of the game.

GAME TWO RESULTS

RBC and Surry volleyed the lead four times in the 2nd game, but the Statesmen came out on top for a 4-3 win.

The bottom of the second saw RBC Statesmen take an early lead, 2-0. RBC got things going when Amberly Alston doubled. More runs came home when Alston scored on an RBI single by Rebecca Condrey.

After giving up the lead 3-2 RBC fought back in the sixth inning. Taylor Slate came in clutch after hitting a two-run double off of the first base bag, scoring Rebecca Condrey and McKenzie Love.

Slate boosted her batting average thanks to a perfect 4-4 day at the plate to pace Richard Bland.

Tara Heatwole got it done on the rubber on the way to a win. She allowed three runs over seven innings. She struck out five, walked two and surrendered seven hits.

​RBC plays against Florence-Darlington on their home field tomorrow starting at 1pm and 3pm.
