THREE PLAYERS NAMED TO THE 2015 NJCAA DII SOFTBALL TOP RETURNERS

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Sophomores Taylor Slate (Brunswick Academy), Tara Heatwole (Jamestown) and Jordan Byrd (Thomas Dale) was selected to the 2015 National Junior College Athletic Association Division II Softball Team announced on Monday, January 26, 2015.

 

Emporia, Virginia native, Slate, earned honors for the utility position. She batted a .464 clip and had two homeruns during her freshman campaign. Slate represented the Statesmen softball program as a member of the 2014 Region X All-Tournament Team, 2014 Region X First Team Utility Player, and 2014 Marucci Elite Hitter for District P.

 

Slate was also the 2014 Region X Player of the Year Runner-Up.

 

Heatwole, of Williamsburg, Virginia, was selected as one-of-five top returning pitchers. She finished the 2014 season with 116 strikeouts and only allowed 32 walks on base.

 

Byrd, of Chesterfield, Virginia, represented the Statesmen in the outfield position. She compiled a .222 batting average her freshman year and knocked down seven RBI's while swiping seven stolen bases.

 

The Statesmen kick-off its 2015 season on the road Friday, Jan. 30 when they travel to Clearwater, Fla. to face Northwest Florida State in the JUCO Kickoff Classic. Tip-off is slated for 10 a.m.
