SOFTBALL CONCLUDE JUCO KICKOFF

CLEARWATER, Fla. – The Richard Bland College softball team concluded the 2015 JUCO Kickoff with a positive outlook on the remainder of the season. Although the Statesmen suffered setbacks on day two of the tournament, the games gave the team an outlook on what to improve on for the regular season and conference play.

During game one against Daytona State, the Statesmen mustered seven hits but dropped an 8-2 decision. Despite Kim Ellis (Thomas Dale) 2-3 performance at the plate it would not be enough to outlast the Bats.

Kristin Saunders (New Kent) was charged with the loss, she allowed eight runs in six innings, walked four and struck out four. The Statesmen took an early, 1-0 lead but the games last lead went to Daytona State.

A third inning rally that saw three runs cross the plate put the Bats up 3-1. RBC closed the deficit to 3-2 in the top of the fifth but the Bats scored two runs in the fifth followed by a two-run home run by Michelle Guzinski.

The Statesmen dropped an 11-0 contest to Tallahassee in the second game of the day, despite a big day at the dish from Erin Forbes (Camden County), who finished 2-2.

Cindy Allen (Gloucester) took the loss for RBC, she allowed 10 runs, walked two and struck out none.

Tallahassee scored one run in the first, two runs in the second, seven in the third and one more in the second inning.

In the last game of the day, the Statesmen suffered a 9-1 setback to Polk County. The Statesmen collected four hits but it would be Riley Caylor who would get it done at the mound. She allowed one run over five innings, striking out three, walked none and gave up four hits.

The Statesmen never led and its lone run of the ballgame came in the fifth inning on an error.

Richard Bland looks to recover on Saturday, Feb. 21 when they host Harford Community College in doubleheader at 12 noon.
