SOFTBALL INKS SIX
PETERSBURG, Va. – The Richard Bland College softball program and Head Coach Martha Covington have announced the incoming class for the 2015-16 season. The Statesmen will welcome six new players to the team.
Brittney Wash will join the cavalry green and white upon graduation from Varina High School. The Henrico native, will be counted on to add some depth inside the circle as well as see time as an outfielder.
Sierra Johnson will join the Statesmen next fall from Southampton High School. "She will bring power and size to the team," said Coach Covington. Johnson played the utility position for the Southampton Storm.
Another Southampton High School product and teammate of Johnson, Katelyn Cobb will also join the squad in the fall upon graduation. "Katelyn will see time in the circle as well as the outfield," added Covington.
Morgan Whitley hails from Windsor High School, a power hitter also from the Southampton Storm. "Morgan will spend time in the infield in particular at the third base position, "stated Covington.
Tabby Dabney, a senior at Hanover High School will be added to the squad in the fall. Covington said "Tabby will bring strong pitching and versatility at first base." Dabney is a pitcher for the West End Waves.
Casey St. Clair rounds out the list of early signees for the Richard Bland softball team. She attends L.C. Bird High School and was a true utility player for the Dixie Chicks. "Casey will add strength in the hitting column as well as her good defensive options, including third base, catcher, shortstop and outfield," noted Covington.
The Statesmen return to action on Feb. 27th and Feb. 28th for Region X doubleheaders at Surry Community College and Patrick Henry Community College after cancellation of its last two home games due to inclement weather.
