IN FOCUS: SOFTBALL EDITION - SOPHOMORE TAYLOR SLATE

"In Focus" is a weekly feature on RBCathletics.com that will highlight student-athletes from seven intercollegiate athletic programs that make up "RBC Statesmen"

Each edition, RBC Athletic Communications Assistant chats with selected student-athletes from various programs to get inside their world and let us know a little more about them.

This edition features sophomore Taylor Slate of the softball team. The Emporia, Va., native has played in 29 games in her career at RBC, including averaging a teams-best .464 at the plate during last season campaign to help lead her team to the regular-season championship title.

Slate was a member of the 2014 All-Region X All-Tournament Team, 2014 Region X First Team Utility Player and the 2014 Marucci Elite Hitter for District P all in her first season as a Statesmen.

With the season starting, Slate and her teammates are gearing up for the regular season and Region X play. She was nice enough to take the time out with sports information assistant to give us a little more of an in-depth look at herself.

1. How did you decide RBC was the right place for you?

Richard Bland was the right place for me after graduating high school because, I was not really sure what career path I wanted to take and I thought that RBC would be a great place for me to grow not only academically but athletically as well.

2. What is your personal goal this season and what are the team's goals for the season?
My personal goal this year is to just step out on the field and have fun, play my game. Our team goals this year are to take each game one at a time, win our region tournament, but most importantly have fun and enjoy playing the game we love.
3. What was your favorite athletic moment at RBC thus far?
When we played at Wake Tech in the Region X Tournament. The game was going back andforth and I ended up hitting an in the park homerun. After returning back into the dugout our athletic director was standing right outside of it and came picked me up and hugged me. It was one of those moments that you just felt proud to be wearing the name on the front of your jersey.
4. What's a fun fact that people may not know about you?
My fun fact would be that I have to wear blue nail polish during the season #superstitious
5. Favorites:

Movie: Just Go With It

Food: Buffalo chicken dip

Musical Artist: Miley Cyrus

Pro Team: Washington Nationals (baseball)/ Seahawks (football)
