RBC SOFTBALL HOST SOUTHEASTERN – WHITEVILLE ON FRIDAY

PETERSBURG, Va. – After winning four consecutive games for a two game sweep against Patrick Henry and CCBC Catonsville, the Richard Bland softball team is ready to host the Lady Rams of Southeastern Community College of Whiteville in a Region X matchup on Friday, Mar. 13th in a doubleheader at 3 p.m.

Richard Bland opened up Region X play last weekend against Patrick Henry Community College, sweeping the Patriots in two games. The victories improved the Statesmen to 2-0 on the season in conference play and the third win on the season before sweeping the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville on Sunday.

 

RBC welcomes the Lady Rams with a 5-6 record overall, after defeating CCBC Catonsville 13-4 in five-innings and 5-4 in the second game. Freshman Haley Boykin (Southampton) led the Statesmen at the plate last week, averaging .500 at the plate after she hit a single out to left field to start the momentum for which would lead to Cindy Allen's (Gloucester) run to home plate to win the ball game, 5-4 in the bottom of the seventh.

 

Kim Ellis (L.C. Bird) follows Boykin in the batting average column at .385, while Kristin Saunders (New Kent) at .368 and Amanda Archer (Amelia County) posting .360 on the season.

 

Saunders (New Kent) went 1-0 on the day against the Cardinals in the first game, allowing six hits, four runs and four strikes out for a 5.0 ERA in five innings. Sophomore Tara Heatwole (Jamestown) would finish the day off with a 1-0 record in game two, allowing four runs and eight hits, while striking out eight. Heatwole leads the team in strikes out with a total of 23 on the season.

 

Southeastern of Whiteville enters Friday's game with a 2-6 overall record, with the doubleheader against the Statesmen being its first Region X conference game on the season.

 

Abbey Walters paces the team with a .400 batting average, while Chelsey Taylor and Amanda Ludlum follows with .367 and .353, respectively. The Lady Rams are hitting .317 as a team with 41 runs scored and three home runs.

 

In the circle, Walters has a 0.97 ERA in 21.2 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts and 1-1 record, while Haley Tolley has a 7.00 ERA in 2.0 innings pitched with no strikeouts. Robin Coleman is 0-3 this season with a 7.74 ERA.

Richard Bland is 2-2 all-time in the series with the Lady Rams, the Statesmen took down Southeastern-Whiteville last season at RBC and at Whiteville, NC. Both times the teams met, each team split the doubleheader, 1-1.
