RBC SOFTBALL CONTINUES HOME STRETCH VS. WAKE TECH

PETERSBURG, Va., - Coming off a split victory against Region X Division I Pitt Community College on Saturday, the Richard Bland College of William & Mary softball team quickly turns its attention back to Region X Division II conference action as it plays host to a doubleheader with Wake Tech this Wednesday at the Statesmen Softball Field.

Richard Bland (10-7 Overall, 4-0 Region X) is coming off a split between the Lady Bulldogs with Pitt taking the first game, 6-3 and the Statesmen winning the second contest, 5-3.

 

Sophomore pitcher Tara Heatwole (Williamsburg, VA) got the job done in the circle, allowing only three runs over the seven inning pitched, striking out four. Heatwole also captured her second save on the season during the first game.

 

Despite the Statesmen struggle offensively in game one, RBC was paced by Taylor Slate (Emporia, VA) with two hits including a double and one run. Kristin Saunders (New Kent, VA) led the way in game two with two hits that including a double and triple to collect an RBI. Saunders has posted five RBI on the season.

 

The Statesmen are led by Haley Boykin (Courtland, VA), who averages .429 at the plate, following Kimberly Ellis (Chesterfield, VA) and Amanda Archer (Amelia, VA) at a .390 and .381 clip. At the mound, Heatwole is 6-4 with a 2.28 ERA, striking out fifty in 52.0 innings pitched.

 

Wake Tech enters Wednesday's contest with a 1-9 record on the season after splitting with the College of Albemarle on March 13. The Eagles dropped the first decision, 9-4 but came back to dismantle the Dolphins, 15-1 in the second game.

 

Jessica Cooper paces the Eagles at the plate, averaging .400, while Brittany Wayne and Stephanie Ledek follow at a .385 and .364 clip. In the circle, Wake Tech is led by Brittney Murray, who is 0-4 with a 3.73 ERA, striking out six in 49.0 innings pitched.

 

Wednesday's doubleheader marks the first meeting between the two teams this season.
