IN FOCUS: SOFTBALL EDITION – WHITNEY CLEMENTS

"In Focus" is a weekly feature on RBCathletics.com that will highlight student-athletes from 11 intercollegiate athletic programs that make up "RBC Statesmen"

Each edition, RBC Athletic Communications intern chats with selected student-athletes from various programs to get inside their world and let us know a little more about them.

This edition features freshman Whitney Clements of the softball team. The Prince George, Va., native has played in 21 games this season, including a batting average of .365, 23 hits and 14 RBI.

With the season in full swing, Clements and her teammates will be heading to Surry Community College on Friday for a Region X conference matchup. She was nice enough to take the time out with sports information intern to give us a little more of an in-depth look at herself.

How did you decide RBC was the right place for you?

RBC was the right place for me because it was closer to home and I liked that I could commute. Because I knew a lot of people already enrolled at RBC including softball players, I knew it would be a good place for me.

What is your personal goal this season and what are the team's goals for the season?

My personal goal is to be a leader on and off the field and be one of the leading hitters on the team. Our team goal is to give 100 percent effort each day, win our conference, region and hopefully go as far as the World Series.

What was your favorite athletic moment at RBC thus far?

My favorite athletic moment at RBC has to be our team bonding, it's always fun and impossible not to have a good time. One time in particular, the ropes course had to be the most memorable time.

What's a fun fact that people may not know about you?

I had an athletic scholarship to play softball in South Carolina but I felt it wasn't for me. Within 24 hours, I got accepted to RBC and acquired a spot on the softball team. I couldn't have imagined being anywhere else.
