NO.13 SOFTBALL HOSTS FLORENCE-DARLINGTON TECH IN HOME SERIES

PETERSBURG, Va. – With two wins on Monday against conference foe Wake Tech, the No. 13 Richard Bland College softball team's schedule doesn't get any easier this weekend, as the Statesmen host Region X foe Florence-Darlington Technical Community College for a doubleheader at the Statesmen Softball Field.

 

The Lady Stingers (20-7, 2-2 Region X) stands in third place after sweeping Wake Tech (11-3, 8-0). Heather Kriby leads the team offensively with a batting average of .460, runs (29) and RBI (24) while Asotin Kullnat and Kristian Farmer leads the team in stolen bases with five apiece.

 

The Lady Stingers pitching staff features Ramsey Sherrill and Breanna Skipper. Skippers holds a 9-3 record, with a 2.16 ERA and 71.1 innings pitched.

 

The doubleheader vs. Florence-Darlington Tech starts Saturday at 12 noon. Live stats will be provided on rbcathletics.com and live tweets will be available on Twitter @GoRBCStatesmen.

 

Richard Bland (20-9, 14-2 Region X) ties with Surry Community College for first place in the Region X standings after the two wins on Monday against the Lady Eagles of Wake Tech.

 

Taylor Slate (Emporia, VA) is the Statesmen lead hitter with a .393 batting average, 37 runs, 33 hits (7 doubles, two triples), and a slug percentage of .524. Slate also leads the Statesmen in defense with 121 putouts while Erin Forbes (Camden, NC) and Hannah Barnes (Emporia, VA) tie for assists with four each.

 

The RBC pitching staff is made up of sophomore Tara Heatwole (Williamsburg, VA), freshman Kristin Saunders (New Kent, VA), freshman Cindy Allen (Gloucester, VA) and freshman Mikie Williams (Fredericksburg, VA). Heatwole is the Statesmen top pitcher with a record of 9-3 overall and an earned run average of 2.02. Heatwole has made 20 appearances with 12 starts for 90.0 innings and 76 strikeouts.

 

The Statesmen lead the series, 2-0 this season after defeating the Lady Stingers (9-3, 9-1) on March 28.
