STATESMEN FALL TO RANDOLPH-MACON 6-2, 9-1
ASHLAND, Va. – The Richard Bland College softball team saw its five-game win streak snapped after visiting Randolph-Macon College on Wednesday afternoon in a nonconference matchup. The Statesmen came up short in the day's opener 6-2 and nightcap 9-1.

The two teams combined for 29 total hits as the Statesmen allowed 19 hits while managing 10 hits. An RBI single by Erin Forbes (Camden, VA) set off the Statesmen rally despite RBC trailing 6-1 in the top of the sixth inning.

Another run in the top of the seventh closed the Yellow Jackets lead to 6-2 but a strikeout at the plate by Hayley Boykin (Courtland, VA) closed the game out as the Statesmen came up short.

Despite the Statesmen five hits, it would not be enough to get the victory as R-MC scored four runs in the fourth inning after scoring on three singles.

The Statesmen managed to score one run in the fifth but the Yellow Jackets answered back, scoring five runs of its own in the fifth which sealed the win.

Both Tara Heatwole (Williamsburg, VA) and Kristin Saunders (New Kent, VA) took a pitching loss, Heatwole allowed six runs in six innings, walking none but struck out nine. Saunders allowed nine runs in 4 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out none.

Richard Bland will return to action on Saturday, April 25 when they travel to Patrick Henry Community College for a Region X matchup. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m.
