PETERSBURG, Va.  – The Richard Bland College softball and men's soccer team took part in the "Project Plant It!" on Friday, April 24. The event was held at Lee Memorial Park located just seven minutes away from the campus of Richard Bland College.

"Our student-athletes are always excited about lending a helping hand to our community," said head men's soccer coach and life skills coordinator Eduardo de Souza. "These young men and women understand their responsibility as a role model for the youth."

"We are building relationships to ensure that we make a difference in people's lives as well as our nature."

Elementary schools in the Petersburg area, the United States Army and the student-athletes of the men's soccer and women's softball team of Richard Bland volunteered their time to get involved with the project.

The Project Plant It! – Tree Planting is organized by Wilcox Watershed Conservancy, establish in 2007, non-profit organization whose mission is the improvement and restoration of Lee Memorial Park.

During the event, the student-athletes interacted with the youth after being informed on the importance of preserving the trees while also learning about Geology and Paleontology.
