SOFTBALL CONCLUDES REGULAR SEASON SCHEDULE AT PATRICK HENRY

PETERSBURG, Va. – The No. 12 Richard Bland College softball team looks to conclude its 2015 regular season schedule on Saturday, April 25 when they travel to Patrick Henry Community College for its final Region X doubleheader of the season.

 

Although the Statesmen (27-10, 16-2 Region X) two game setbacks (6-2 and 9-1) against DIII Randolph-Macon College did not affect the team's standings and records, the Statesmen are coming off a four-game sweep of CCBC Catonsville and the College of Southern Maryland.

 

Offensively, sophomore Taylor Slate (Emporia, VA) leads the team with a batting average of .383. She has 44 hits, 46 runs and 34 singles on the season. Freshman Amanda Archer (Amelia, VA) and Hayley Olson (Richmond, VA) both round out the second and third spot with a batting clip of .381 and .372, respectively.

 

Sophomore Tara Heatwole (Williamsburg, VA) is 12-5 on the year as the leading pitcher on the Statesmen roster. She has allowed 123 hits, 62 runs, 25 walks and struck out 107 while posting a 2.25 ERA in 121 innings pitched. Freshman Kristin Saunders (New Kent, VA) has pitched 104 innings, accounting for 117 hits, 71 runs, 44 walks and 59 strikeouts on the season. Saunders charts a 3.29 ERA after starting 18-of-23 games played.

 

The Lady Patriots (3-17, 3-14 Region X) are coming off two setbacks (5-1 and 7-5) against Florence-Darlington Tech on Thursday, Morgan Revels is the team's lead hitter as she holds a .375 batting average. She has 13 runs and 18 hits on the year to also lead Patrick Henry.

 

The pitching staff for the Lady Patriots include Haley Faulkner, Samantha Cisco and Madison Gauldin for a combined 2.76 ERA. Faulkner is 0-5 on the year, allowing 75 hits, 49 runs and five walks in 37 innings pitched.

 

In the first meeting between the two teams, the Statesmen earned a 6-2 and 10-0 sweep over Patrick Henry on March 8. RBC leads the all-time series with PHCC, 5-1.
