SIX STATESMEN RECEIVE 2015 ALL-REGION X DII SOFTBALL HONORS

BURLINGTON, N.C.  – The Richard Bland College softball team got some well-deserved hardware after another strong season, Thursday evening, when six players were named to the 2015 Region X DII Softball All-Conference team. The Statesmen had five players earn first team All-Region X honors while one was named to the All-Region X second team.

After claiming the regular-season title for the second consecutive year, the Statesmen were rewarded with several individual honors. Sophomore pitcher Tara Heatwole (Williamsburg, VA) led the way when she was one of five Statesmen to earn first team All-Region X honors. She finished the regular season with 111 strikeouts to lead the conference while also tying for the conference for the most pitching wins with 13.

Joining her on the first team was sophomore catcher Taylor Slate (Emporia, VA), who took home first team All-Region X honors for the second consecutive year during her career. She was runner-up for Player of the Year. Also making their first appearance on the All-Region X team was freshman short stop Erin Forbes (Camden, NC), outfielders Hayley Olson (Richmond, VA) and Amanda Archer (Amelia, VA).

Also earned conference honors for the first time was freshman first base Whitney Clements (Prince George, VA), who was named to the 2015 All-Region X second team.

The RBC honorees will take their honors into the post-season as the number one seed and will face the winner of Florence-Darlington Tech (Florence, SC) and Wake Tech (Raleigh, NC). First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m., Saturday at the Springwood Park in Burlington, N.C.
