TAYLOR SLATE EARNS VaSID ALL-STATE HONORS
LYNCHBURG, Va. – The Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) named Richard Bland College sophomore Taylor Slate to the 2015 VaSID All-State Second Team as the organization unveiled its 2015 all-state softball awards on Thursday.
Slate, a native of Emporia, Va., had a stellar season in which she was named to the 2015 All-Region 10 First-Team and player of the year runner-up. She led her team to its second consecutive regular-season title and a runner-up finish in the Region 10 DII Softball Tournament this season.
The 5-foot-2 catcher finished with 58 hits, eight doubles, three triples, one home run, 36 RBI and 53 total runs scored. She led the Statesmen with a batting average of .417 on the year.
For the second straight season she led the team and conference in stolen bases with a total of 28, ranking her in the top-20 nationally.
Slates' selection as Second-Team All-State is the first for Richard Bland's softball program.
