MACK NAMED ASSISTANT SOFTBALL COACH

PETERSBURG, Va., (August 19, 2015) – Rachael Mack, who enjoyed a storied scholastic career as a First-Team All-State softball pitcher at Herbert Hoover (WV) High School and played intercollegiate softball at Concord University in Athens, West Virginia, has been named an Assistant Softball Coach and Assistant Coordinator of Recreation at Richard Bland College. The announcement came from Chuck Moore, Head Men's Basketball Coach and Director of Athletics.

Mack graduated this past spring from Concord University with a Regents Bachelor of Arts degree.

As part of the Statesmen softball coaching staff, Mack will specialize in mentoring the Richard Bland pitching staff, an area she excelled in as a scholastic athlete at Herbert Hoover High School. A starting pitcher all four seasons, Mack was a four-time All-State and All-Conference selection who finished her career with 937 strikeouts and a 1.17 earned run average.

"We are thrilled to have Rachael begin her collegiate coaching career at Richard Bland," said Moore. "She enjoyed an outstanding softball career at the high school and college levels and we are anxious for her to bring that expertise to our softball program. Her enthusiasm will be contagious for all those around her as they pursue the mission of Richard Bland and of the Athletic Department.  I could not feel more blessed to be able to attract a staff member with a high character, passion, and work ethic of Rachael."

A native of Charleston, West Virginia, Mack played two seasons at Concord, starting in 86 games. She appeared in 79 games on the mound, collecting 79 strikeouts. Her final season, Mack hit .271 with a .310 slugging percentage.  She was also a member of the Concord Track and Field team, running sprints, but specialized in the javelin.

"I am beyond excited to be a member of the Statesmen staff," said Mack. "I am thrilled to have the opportunity to not only work at Richard Bland College, but with a very talented pitching and catching staff. My goal as a pitching coach is to help the women improve and continue their playing career at the next level."

For the past five seasons, Mack has coached the West Virginia Dusters and played for newly-named RBC assistant softball coach Kelli Parks for two years.
