SOFTBALL HOSTS RBC INVITATIONAL IN BUSY WEEKEND OF ACTION

PETERSBURG, Va., (March 3, 2016) – The threat of a late winter storm may play havoc with a busy softball weekend, but weather permitting, the Richard Bland College softball team will play its home opener on Friday, March 4 against Pitt C.C. at 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. The weekend promises exciting softball action, as the Statesmen host the RBC Invitational at the Dinwiddie Sports Complex on Saturday and Sunday.

 

The Statesmen (2-9, 2-2 Region X Conference) haven't played since sweeping a doubleheader from Southeastern Community College-Whiteville on Feb. 21, and are on tap to play six games over the next three days.

 

On Saturday, Richard Bland is scheduled to face CCBC Catonsville at 11 am, College of Southern Maryland at 3 pm and Cuyahoga Community College at 5 pm. Sunday's action has the Statesmen facing Potomac at 9 a.m.

 

Prices for the RBC Softball Invitational are: $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for youth/senior citizens/military and children under 10 are free.

1 pm - Potomac vs. Pitt C.C. (Field 2)
           Louisburg vs. Cuyahoga (Field 3) 

3 pm - Richard Bland vs. College of Southern Maryland (Field 2)

5 pm - Cuyahoga vs. Richard Bland (Field 3)

STATESMEN AT A GLANCE:

The Statesmen are led in hitting by sophomore outfielder Abby Eichelberger who has a .476 batting average. Sophomore infielder Whitney Clements follows at .441 and sophomore infielder Hannah Barnes at .471.

 

The pitching duties this year have fell on the capable shoulders of freshman Shannon Buffington, who sports a 2-5 record in 44.2 innings of work. She has a 3.92 ERA with 15 strikeouts. Look for freshmen Tabby Dabney and Katelyn Cobb to see pitching duties over the next three days.

 

Richard Bland will be back in action at home on Friday, March 11, hosting Southeastern Community College-Whiteville in doubleheader action at 3 pm and 5 pm.
