SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will welcome NJCAA Division I Louisburg (N.C.) College on Wednesday, March 22 for a doubleheader beginning at 5 p.m. at the RBC Softball Field.  The Statesmen are 7-10 overall, 5-3 in Region 10, currently alone in second place among the seven region schools competing in the sport.  The Hurricanes are 17-5 overall.

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 7-10 overall after splitting two road games at Surry (N.C.) Community College on March 18 (6-7, 7-1).  The Statesmen are coached by head coach Katy Lampman, who is in her first season, while assisted by first-year assistant coaches Cassidy Clayton, Pete Berrios and Danielle Beverly.

Through 17 games, Richard Bland has been led offensively by sophomore Tabby Dabney/Mechanicsville, who is hitting .475 with three home runs, one triple, four doubles, 13 runs, 17 RBIs and two stolen bases.  Dabney is followed by freshman Brooklynn Bilyard/Culpeper (.463, 4 HRs, 6 2Bs, 19 Rs, 19 RBIs, 6 SBs), classmate Taylor Daniel/Alberta (.400, 1 3B, 4 2Bs, 15 Rs, 5 RBIs, 2 SBs), sophomore August Ringer/Yale (.323, 13 Rs, 3 RBIs, 3 SB) and classmate Katelyn King/Chesterfield (.322, 2 HRs, 4 2Bs, 16 Rs, 9 RBIs, 1 SB).

The Statesmen pitching staff has been led by sophomore Shannon Buffington/Virginia Beach and Tabby Dabney. Buffington is 2-5 with a 3.99 earned run average and 18 strikeouts over 40.1 innings with four complete games in eight appearances, including seven starts.  Dabney is 2-2 with a 4.89 earned run average and 16 strikeouts over 34.1 innings with three complete games in eight appearances, including six starts.  Brooklynn Bilyard is 1-1 with a 5.53 earned run average and 20 strikeouts over 19.0 innings with two complete games in five appearances, including four starts.

Series History
Richard Bland and NJCAA DI Louisburg are playing for just the seventh and eighth times in the sport of softball, and the Hurricanes currently lead the series at 4-2.  The two schools split doubleheaders during the 2014 and 2015 seasons, respectively, before Louisburg swept a twinbill last March 12 in North Carolina (8-0, 9-3).

Richard Bland will travel to play at Region 10 member Patrick Henry Community College on Friday, March 24 at 1 p.m. in Martinsville.  The Statesmen remain on the road to play at NCAA Division III Christopher Newport University next Tuesday, March 28 for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. in Newport News.  CNU was ranked 11th in the most recent NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll.
