Richard Bland At Christopher Newport Tuesday, Wake Tech Thursday

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will play a pair of mid-week softball doubleheaders on the road, including at NCAA Division III Christopher Newport University on Tuesday, March 28 at 4 p.m. in Newport News and at Region 10 member Wake Technical (N.C.) Community College on Thursday, March 30 at 2 p.m. in Raleigh, North Carolina.  The Statesmen are 9-12 overall, 7-3 in Region 10, currently tied for first place among the seven region schools competing in the sport.  CNU is 15-7 overall, ranked 20th in last week's NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll, while Wake Tech is 2-6 overall, 0-4 in Region 10.

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland is 9-12 overall after sweeping a Region 10 road doubleheader at Patrick Henry Community College on March 24 (18-2, 7-2).  The Statesmen are coached by head coach Katy Lampman, who is in her first season, while assisted by first-year assistant coaches Cassidy Clayton, Pete Berrios and Danielle Beverly.

Through 21 games, Richard Bland has been led offensively by sophomore Tabby Dabney/Mechanicsville, who is hitting .458 with three home runs, one triple, six doubles, 18 runs, 20 RBIs and two stolen bases.  Dabney is followed by freshman Brooklynn Bilyard/Culpeper (.455, 4 HRs, 6 2Bs, 19 Rs, 19 RBIs, 6 SBs), classmate Taylor Daniel/Alberta (.371, 1 3B, 4 2Bs, 17 Rs, 5 RBIs, 2 SBs), sophomore August Ringer/Yale (.309, 1 3B, 16 Rs, 4 RBIs, 3 SBs), classmate Katelyn King/Chesterfield (.306, 2 HRs, 1 3B, 4 2Bs, 20 Rs, 14 RBIs, 1 SB) and freshman Kay'Lee Justice/Suffolk (.306, 1 HR, 2 3Bs, 6 2Bs, 14 Rs, 16 RBIs, 1 SB).

The Statesmen pitching staff has been led by sophomore Shannon Buffington/Virginia Beach and Tabby Dabney.  Buffington is 3-6 with a 4.20 earned run average and 22 strikeouts over 48.1 innings with five complete games in 10 appearances, including eight starts.  Dabney is 3-2 with a 4.83 earned run average and 29 strikeouts over 46.1 innings with four complete games in 11 appearances, including seven starts. 

Series History
Richard Bland and Christopher Newport are playing for the first time in the sport of softball, while the Statesmen and Wake Tech are playing for the 14th and 15th times.  Richard Bland has never lost a game to the Eagles, leading the series at 13-0.

Richard Bland returns home to welcome Region 10 member Pitt (N.C.) Community College for a doubleheader on Saturday, April 1 at 12 p.m. at the RBC Softball Field.  The Statesmen will turn around and play on the road at PCC next Wednesday, April 5 at 4 p.m. in Winterville, North Carolina.
