SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Sophomore Kay'Lee Justice/Suffolk had two hits and three RBIs in the opener, while classmate Ashley Fritz/Chesterfield had a three-run home run in the nightcap, to lead Richard Bland College to a non-region softball doubleheader sweep past Southern Maryland on Wednesday at the Statesman Softball Field.  Freshman Megan Vincent/Boykins had the complete-game pitching win in the 8-0 first game for the host Statesmen (10-3), while classmate Joana Holland/Manassas had the complete-game win in the 11-0 second game against the visiting Hawks (0-4).  Richard Bland has now won nine-straight games.

In game one, Richard Bland had eight runs on nine hits … scoring five runs in the second inning and three runs in the fourth for the run-rule victory.

Justice led Richard Bland, going 2-3 with one run and three RBIs, while freshman Mary Simms/Orange was 2-3 with a double, one run and two RBIs.  Freshman Skyler Bagnall/Ivor was 1-2 with one run, one RBI and a walk, while sophomore Brooklynn Bilyard/Culpeper was 1-3 with two runs and a stolen base.

Vincent (2-1) started in the circle and pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, yielding just two hits with a career-high seven strikeouts and one walk.

In game two, Richard Bland had 11 runs on 11 hits … scoring six runs in the first inning, two runs in the second and three runs in the third for the run-rule victory.

Fritz led Richard Bland, going 2-3 with her first collegiate home run, two runs and three RBIs, while freshman Taylor Bilyard/Culpeper was 2-3 with two doubles, two runs and two RBIs.  Simms was 2-3 with a double, one run and two RBIs, sophomore Kamryn Lanier/Chester was 1-2 with one RBI and Brooklynn Bilyard was 1-3 with a double and two runs.

Holland (3-1) started in the circle and pitched 5.0 scoreless innings, allowing three hits with a career-high seven strikeouts and one walk.

Richard Bland will go on the road this weekend for a pair of doubleheaders against NJCAA Division I opponents, including at Spartanburg Methodist on Sunday, March 11, at 1 p.m. in Spartanburg, South Carolina and at USC Sumter on Monday, March 12, at 1 p.m. in Sumter, South Carolina.
