Richard Bland Hosting Patrick Henry Saturday For Sophomore Day

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland will welcome in-state opponent Patrick Henry for a Region 10 softball doubleheader on Saturday, April 28, beginning at 12 p.m. at the Statesman Softball Field.  The Statesmen are 22-13 overall, including 11-9 in Region 10, while the Patriots were 13-21 overall, 3-13 in Region 10 prior to a scheduled doubleheader on Friday (April 27). 

It's Sophomore Day in recognition of Brooklynn Bilyard/Culpeper, Ashley Fritz/Chesterfield, Kay'Lee Justice/Suffolk, Kamryn Lanier/Chester and Kara Morris/Kents Store.  A special ceremony will take place prior to game one on Saturday.

Scouting the Statesmen
Through 35 games, Richard Bland has been led offensively by freshman Mary Simms/Orange, who is hitting .431 with four home runs, 19 doubles, and 27 RBIs.  Simms is followed by Justice (.391, 3 HRs, 3 2Bs, 17 RBIs), freshman Katie Haney/Burkeville (.388, 2 HRs, 6 2Bs, 17 RBIs), Brooklynn Bilyard (.381, 3 HRs, 6 2Bs, 26 RBIs), Lanier (.370, 2 HRs, 4 2Bs, 22 RBIs), Morris (.362, 2 HRs, 4 2Bs, 21 RBIs) and Fritz (.351, 2 HRs, 7 2Bs, 23 RBIs).  The Statesmen are hitting .354 with 20 home runs, 74 doubles and 225 RBIs, while scoring 7.5 runs per game.

In the circle, Richard Bland has been led by freshmen Megan Vincent/Boykins and Joana Holland/Manassas, along with Brooklynn Bilyard.  Vincent is 8-5 with a 2.83 earned run average and 73 strikeouts (6.26) over 81.2 innings with one save.  Holland is 5-2 with a 3.34 ERA and 41 strikeouts (5.70) over 50.1 innings.  Brooklynn Bilyard is 7-4 with a 5.77 ERA and 78 strikeouts (8.19) over 66.2 innings.  The team ERA is 4.21 with 207 strikeouts (6.71) over 216.0 innings.

Series History
Richard Bland and Patrick Henry have played 21 times previously, and the Statesmen lead the series, 18-3.  The two squads just played a doubleheader last Sunday (April 22) in Martinsville and split the two games … RBC winning the opener 10-2 in five innings before PHCC won the nightcap 2-1.

Sophomores
Brooklynn Bilyard has started 73 of 74 career games with a .398 batting average, nine home runs, nine triples, 18 doubles, 76 RBIs, 77 runs, 24 walks and 26 stolen bases … in the circle, she has made 39 appearances with 27 starts for a 16-7 record, two saves, a 4.30 ERA and 164 strikeouts over 149.2 innings.  Ashley Fritz has started 62 of 68 career games with a .371 batting average, two home runs, seven triples, 18 doubles, 55 RBIs, 51 runs, 18 walks and 10 stolen bases.  Kay'Lee Justice, who unfortunately is out with an injury, has started 68 of 68 career games with a .393 batting average, 10 home runs, six triples, 17 doubles, 65 RBIs, 60 runs, 34 walks and four stolen bases.  Kamryn Lanier has started 36 of 54 career games with a .364 batting average, three home runs, nine doubles, 35 RBIs, 25 runs, 24 walks and three stolen bases.  Kara Morris has started 46 of 56 career games with a .376 batting average, two home runs, two triples, eight doubles, 32 RBIs, 48 runs, 20 walks and six stolen bases.

Up Next
Richard Bland is scheduled to play at Region 10 opponent Surry (N.C.) on Sunday, April 29, at 2 p.m. in Dobson, North Carolina to complete the regular season.  The Statesmen will compete in the Region 10 Tournament May 4-5 in Burlington, North Carolina.  Richard Bland is coached by second-year head coach Katy Lampman, assisted by first-year assistant coaches Danielle Thacker and Troy Jacobs.
