Richard Bland Earns The No. 5 Seed For This Weekend's NJCAA Region 10, District F Softball Championship

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College will play as the No. 5 seed in the 2018 NJCAA Region 10, District F Softball Championship scheduled for May 4-5 at Springwood Park in Burlington, North Carolina.  The Statesmen finished their regular season with an overall record of 26-13, including 15-9 in Region 10, and will open the tournament against No. 4 seed Southeastern-Whiteville (N.C.) (31-9, 17-7) on Friday, May 4, at 10 a.m.  The eight-team, double-elimination event will continue throughout Friday and Saturday (May 5) in North Carolina.

Scouting the Statesmen
Richard Bland has won four-straight games and five of its last six games overall.  The Statesmen are coached by head coach Katy Lampman, who is in her second season, while assisted by first-year assistant coaches Danielle Thacker and Troy Jacobs.

At the Plate
Through 39 games, Richard Bland has been led offensively by freshman Katie Haney/Burkeville, who is hitting .444 with three home runs, four triples, 10 doubles, 30 runs, 19 RBIs and 16 stolen bases, along with classmate Mary Simms/Orange, who is hitting .425 with five home runs, two triples, 19 doubles, 34 runs, 32 RBIs and six stolen bases.  The first-year standouts are followed by sophomores Ashley Fritz/North Chesterfield (.387, 6 HRs, 4 3Bs, 7 2Bs, 33 Rs, 28 RBIs, 7 SBs), Brooklynn Bilyard/Culpeper (.386, 5 HRs, 7 3Bs, 6 2Bs, 40 Rs, 34 RBIs, 18 SBs) and Kamryn Lanier/Chester (.368, 2 HRs, 8 2Bs, 17 Rs, 26 RBIs, 3 SBs), freshman Skyler Bagnall/Ivor (.347, 2 3Bs, 5 2Bs, 23 Rs, 13 RBIs, 5 SBs), sophomore Kara Morris/Kents Store (.347, 2 HRs, 1 3B, 4 2Bs, 19 Rs, 22 RBIs, 1 SB), along with freshman Taylor Bilyard/Culpeper (.333, 2 HRs, 1 3B, 13 2Bs, 25 Rs, 32 RBIs, 4 SBs).  The squad is hitting .358 with new school records of 30 home runs and 22 triples, along with 88 doubles, 259 RBIs and 76 stolen bases, while scoring 7.7 runs per game.

In the Circle
The Statesmen pitching staff has been led by freshmen Megan Vincent/Boykins and Joana Holland/Manassas, along with Brooklynn Bilyard.  Vincent is 9-5 with a 2.62 earned run average and 76 strikeouts over 88.1 innings with six complete games and three shutouts in 21 appearances, including 14 starts and one save.  Holland is 7-2 with a 3.56 ERA and 46 strikeouts over 61.0 innings with three complete games in 15 appearances, including six starts.  Brooklynn Bilyard is 8-4 with a 5.23 ERA and 83 strikeouts over 73.2 innings with five complete games in 17 appearances, including 16 starts.  The team ERA is 4.03 with a school-record 222 strikeouts over 243.0 innings.

Region 10, District F Softball Tournament Bracket (PDF)

Nationally-ranked No. 13 Florence-Darlington (S.C.) (34-8) is the No. 1 seed for the tournament and will play No. 8 seed Bryant & Stratton (8-27) in a first-round game.  Nationally-ranked No. 17 Pitt (N.C.) (28-10) is the No. 2 seed and will play No. 7 seed Patrick Henry (13-27) in another first-round contest.  NJCAA Region 8 representative Pasco-Hernando State (Fla.) (21-17) is the No. 3 seed and will play No. 6 seed Surry (N.C.) (16-30) in the other first-round game.

The championship game is scheduled for Saturday, May 6, at 2 p.m., and if necessary in the double-elimination format, a second title contest would follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 2 p.m. game.

The Region 10, District F Championship winner will advance to the 2018 NJCAA Division II Softball Championship May 16-19 at Traceway Park in Clinton, Mississippi.
