Richard Bland Names Kamryn Lanier Athlete of the Week

SOUTH PRINCE GEORGE, Va. -- Richard Bland College sophomore softball standout Kamryn Lanier/Chester has been named the Athletics Department's Athlete of the Week for the period May 1-7.  The designated player led the Statesmen (31-15) to five wins in seven games for a runner-up finish at the 2018 NJCAA Region 10, District F Championship May 4-5 in Burlington, North Carolina. 

Lanier hit .630 (17-27) with one home run, two doubles, three runs, eight RBIs, one walk and two stolen bases while earning All-Tournament Team honors.  She was 8-11 (.727) with the two doubles and four RBIs over three games on May 4, while 9-16 (.563) with the home run and four RBIs over four games on May 5.

Lanier started 33 of 40 games this season, hitting .430 (49-114) with three home runs, 10 doubles, 20 runs, 34 RBIs, 16 walks and five stolen bases.  She added a .596 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage, while leading the team in batting average and walks.

Q: How does it feel to be named Richard Bland Athlete of the Week?
KL: It feels great knowing that I went out with a bang at RBC.

Q: How did you get started in your sport and how long have you played?
KL: My mom signed me up to play because she used to play softball as well. I was six years old when I started playing.

Q: What do you like most about your team?
KL: We never give up. No matter the circumstances, we always fight back.

Q: Who is your funniest teammate/why?
KL: Ashley Fritz. I say that because she is my best friend and always finds a way to make me laugh.

Q: Do you have any pregame rituals/superstitions?
KL: I like to pray and during the tournament, we did the Church Clap dance before every game.

Q: What is your favorite place on campus/why?
KL: My bedroom because that's where I get to relax the most.

Q: What is your favorite class/professor/why?
KL: Even though I had her my first semester here at RBC, my favorite class was public speaking with Mrs. Jamie Camp, Adjunct Speech Instructor. She's literally so awesome and she helped me ease into college.
